J.R.R. Tolkien: The Shaping of Middle-earth (US Review Copy)
Houghton Mifflin, 1986
An uncommon US review copy of *The Shaping of Middle-earth*, the fourth volume in *The History of Middle-earth* edited by Christopher Tolkien. This example was distributed by Houghton Mifflin in advance of publication and includes the original publisher’s press release with publication date, price, and contact details.
This volume features the classic Alan Lee-style jacket design, striking orange endpapers, and complete interior text, including *The Quenta*, *The Ambarkanta*, and *The Annals*. The review slip is neatly laid in and folded once as issued.
The dust jacket is clean and bright with minimal edgewear, protected in mylar. Book itself is tight, square, and unread. Ephemeral items like this press sheet rarely survive with the books and strongly enhance collector appeal.
A rare Tolkien review copy from the mid-1980s — highly desirable with intact publicity material.
