Christopher Tolkien: The Treason of Isengard (Review Copy)
Houghton Mifflin, 1989
Uncommon U.S. review copy of *The Treason of Isengard*, the seventh volume in *The History of Middle-earth*, edited by Christopher Tolkien. Issued by Houghton Mifflin in 1989, this example includes the original publisher’s press release with promotional text and review highlights.
The book features Alan Lee’s striking cover illustration and retains the distinctive orange endpapers. The laid-in press material includes blurbs from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly, as well as Houghton Mifflin’s New York publicity contact. These were distributed in limited numbers to media outlets and booksellers ahead of publication.
The book is in excellent condition — clean cloth boards, firm binding, and crisp pages. Dust jacket bright with only minor handling wear. Press release sheet is folded once, as originally issued.
A rare glimpse into how Tolkien’s posthumous works were marketed in the U.S. — a great addition for collectors of Tolkien ephemera and publishing history.
