Essays Presented to Charles Williams – 1947 Uncorrected Proof Copy
J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles S. Johnson, et al. Published by Oxford University Press, 1947.
This is a rare uncorrected proof copy of Essays Presented to Charles Williams, printed in 1947 by Oxford University Press.
J.R.R. Tolkien contributed his On Fairy-Stories (pp. 38–89), which appeared here in print for the first time.
Bound in original red proof wrappers, this copy is complete and internally very well preserved. The spine is uncreased and strong, with only minor edge wear and some rubbing to the lower front wrapper. Proof stamps are clean and well-aligned, not overlapping text. Internally clean and sound, with only light age toning to the paper.
Proof copies of this work are virtually impossible to find—especially one from this first print run in such condition. This example stands out for its rarity, historical importance, and clarity of preservation.
A foundational work in Tolkien’s critical legacy—highly sought after by collectors and scholars alike.
