Extremely rare uncorrected proof copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s *The Silmarillion*, published in 1977 by Houghton Mifflin in the United States. This advance edition predates the official release and was distributed to reviewers and editors ahead of publication.

The proof is bound in plain tan paper wraps printed in black with the title, author, editor (Christopher Tolkien), publisher, ISBN, and production code. It contains the full text of *The Silmarillion*, including the *Quenta Silmarillion*, *Ainulindalë*, *Valaquenta*, *Akallabêth*, and *Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age*.

An iconic publication in Tolkien’s legendarium, *The Silmarillion* introduces readers to the mythic First Age of Middle-earth — the creation of the world, the Valar, the fall of Melkor, the tragic fates of Beren and Lúthien, and the forging of the Silmarils.
