Meditations on Middle‑Earth – Advance Uncorrected Proof

Edited by Karen Haber. Illustrated by John Howe. St. Martin’s Press, November 2001.

An advance uncorrected proof of this collection of essays on Tolkien’s influence on fantasy writers. Contributors include George R.R. Martin, Ursula K. Le Guin, Terry Pratchett, Orson Scott Card and Poul Anderson, with illustrations by John Howe.

The illustrated glossy wrappers carry an “Advance Uncorrected Proofs” notice on the front. The rear contains marketing information and retains a publisher’s publicity label announcing publication in November 2001. The copyright page states “First Edition: November 2001”, with a full number line ending in 1, and ISBN 0-312-27536-6. This remains a pre-publication proof, not the finished trade edition.

The covers retain their colour and gloss, with light surface marks, small indentations near the upper front edge and minor edge and corner wear. The photographed interior pages appear clean. No claim is made that the copy is unread or that it represents a separately established first state.

An illustrated advance proof bringing together leading fantasy writers’ reflections on Tolkien’s enduring influence.
