The Lays of Beleriand (History of Middle‑earth Vol III) – Review Copy
J.R.R. Tolkien. Edited by Christopher Tolkien.
Unwin Hyman, 1987. Review copy, paperback.
This is a rare UK **review copy marked “For Review”** of the third volume in *The History of Middle‑earth*, containing *The Lay of the Children of Húrin* and *The Lay of Leithian*—significant long poems by Tolkien previously unpublished in mainline editions.
Review-paperback copies from Unwin Hyman are seldom seen, particularly in this condition with cover and inner pages intact.
Covers show light wear; textblock clean with minor age-spotting but no markings or annotations aside from review marking. Spine gently creased as expected.
Uncommon review copy of *The Lays of Beleriand*, edited by Christopher Tolkien, published by Unwin Hyman in 1987. Accompanied by the original publisher’s typed review slip, headed “FOR REVIEW,” issued by Unwin Hyman ahead of the book’s September 1987 release.
Major volume in *The History of Middle‑earth* series; UK issue hard to find in review format.
A key collectible, seldom available outside of trade copies—especially as a review copy.
Excellent acquisition for serious Tolkien collectors and scholars.
