A rare Advance Uncorrected Proof of The Complete Tolkien Companion, issued prior to the official U.S. publication in January 2004. These proof editions were printed for internal distribution, media reviews, and bookstore preview — and were never made available commercially.

This edition is bound in glossy softcover wraps featuring the final cover artwork by Kevin Reilly. The rear panel carries a sticker with the official publication date: December 10, 2003. Internally, the proof includes the full text of the finished edition — 720 pages of comprehensive entries organized alphabetically, with illustrations throughout.

Topics span all of Tolkien’s major works: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and the broader legendarium — covering names, characters, locations, Elvish languages, artifacts, and lore.

Condition is Near Fine: internally bright and clean, no marks or highlighting. The spine is uncreased and firm. Outer edges show only light shelf wear.

An excellent collectible for Tolkien enthusiasts, especially those who value rare pre-publication material.
