An uncommon HarperCollins *review copy* of The Hobbit, issued in advance of the official 2001 release of the Children’s Edition. This example includes the publisher’s promotional review slip enclosed in a clear HarperCollins-branded protective sleeve.

The slip specifies the title, author, retail price (£10.99), and official publication date of 19 March 2001. It includes contact details for HarperCollins’ press representatives and notes that “no review should appear before publication date.” Such materials were sent out to reviewers, educators, and press ahead of release — very few survive.

This edition includes David Wyatt’s vivid jacket illustration and a clean presentation of Tolkien’s text. The dust jacket and book are in excellent condition, with minimal wear. Review sheet and sleeve also remain crisp and intact.

Review materials like this are seldom preserved and even less frequently offered for sale — especially in such complete and clean condition.

A rarely seen Tolkien press package — highly desirable for collectors of modern Tolkien printings and proof-related material.
