This rare publicity package from Houghton Mifflin was created to promote the first paperback release of Tolkien’s *Roverandom*. The kit includes the trade paperback edition of the book in unread condition, plus an original Houghton Mifflin press release, promotional insert for *Roverandom*, and a glossy black-and-white publicity photo of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Housed in the publisher’s original marketing folder (NEWS-style wrapper). The insert promotes the title as “A Major Event for Fantasy Lovers Everywhere,” with contact details for press inquiries and marketing. The Tolkien photo is professionally printed on photographic paper and includes his name underneath. A remarkable piece of Tolkien publishing history.

Originally written in 1925 and published posthumously in 1998, *Roverandom* is one of Tolkien’s most whimsical and charming works. This edition features five original illustrations by the author and a scholarly introduction by Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond.

Proof and promotional packages of Tolkien’s books are highly collectible and very seldom offered — particularly in this complete condition with press materials and image still present.
