The Revised (2nd) Edition.

Vol I: The Fellowship of the Ring is a Seventh impression published in 1973, dedicated "signed for Philip Brown - JRR Tolkien".

All three volumes are in Very Good Plus condition, unread, near mint condition.
With the top edge stained red, clean and bright textblock. Original maps are in still in place.
The set looks and feels unread - must only have been opened to be signed by J.R.R Tolkien.

The dustjackets are near perfect, not priceclipped and in excellent mint condition.

A rare association set of significant and collectable books, with all three personal dedications kept together.

The accompanying correspondence documents arrangements for the signing. The first Tolkien card, dated 30 May 1973, is written on both sides in black ink, signed by Tolkien, and has an additional red-ink postscript. The second card is written and signed by Tolkien in red ink on one side, confirming Wednesday 6 June at about 4.30 pm. Philip Brown's reply of 31 May 1973 is also included; it is separate from the two Tolkien-signed cards. This set was signed on Wednesday 6 June 1973, shortly after 4.30 pm.

On the longer card to Philip Brown Tolkien gives the Quenya name for The Lord of the Rings: "i Turin i Cormaron".

A remarkable association set, uniting three personal dedications with two signed Tolkien cards and the correspondence arranging their signing.
