The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, released in 1955 by Allen and Unwin.
A copy of an early printing of The Hobbit.
The 1955, 7th overall printing, or the 3rd printing of the 2nd Edition (1951).
This copy is a stated 7th impression on title verso, published by Allen & Unwin.
The book features the original Mountains and Dragon design by the author.
The boards shows minor soiling and marking, but shows a large water stain to the front board and top of back board.
Spine has faded and shows only light shelf wear. Bottom and top of the spine shows only minor rubbing and clothe is fine.
Book must have been wet to the top of the text block at a certain moment, since the green top paint has slightly dripped onto the inner papers.
All pages show faint light drips on top. Rest of the text block is clean and without foxing.
On the first fly leaf is a written note: Sarah Cerbin with love from mummy.
Lacks the original dust jacket.
Contains the full color frontispiece "The Hill: Hobbiton-across-the Water", as well as the original line drawings by Tolkien.
The maps are in excellent condition, with the red and black ink still showing clear and bright against the endpapers.
Both maps have no foxing.
