Tolkien Library Store - Custom Bindings

1967 The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien US First printing of the 2nd edition - rebound edition

The Lord of the rings Hand bound, hand stamped, hand made rebinding. Very attractive set.

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.
US First printings of the 2nd edition, Houghton Mifflin 1967.

Two of the books are stamped on the title page unobtrusively with library stamps, no other signs of library use at all.

Top edge gilded, blue marbled endpapers, red & yellow head-foot bands, bound in full brown goat leather.

Stamped in gilt on 6 hubbed compartments, title, author and date to the bottom of the spine.

Maps are laid into rear of the book.

Apart from the two library stamps noted above, the books are very well preserved. Rebinding was done as a binding-class project in the US, not by a commercial fine bindery. The handmade binding gives the set considerable charm and makes it present attractively on the shelf.

Overall this is a very attractive book and attractive to any Tolkien collector.
