The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien – HarperCollins 1995 Edition, Fourth Impression – clp0058
Fourth impression of the 1995 HarperCollins edition, with Tolkien’s maps, colour plates and the distinctive gilt-decorated dust jacket.
The printing line reads 5 7 9 8 6 4, identifying this copy as the fourth impression of the edition first published by HarperCollins in 1995.
The book is in near fine condition, with a fine unclipped dust jacket.
No writing appears inside the book.
The text block is clean, with no foxing marks and light, even darkening of the paper.
The map endpapers are clean and bright, unmarked.
The head of the spine has minor shelf-related bumping.
Features Thror's Map and the Map of Wilderland on the endpapers. Includes five colour illustrations in addition to the eight standard black and white illustrations by J.R.R. Tolkien. Text reset and illustrations re-originated. Also has the original dust jacket design by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The dustjacket stands out from other editions because of the gilded moon and gilded borders with dwarven runes.
The boards are the original dark-green cloth with Tolkien's name, The Hobbit, the publisher's name and Tolkien monogram stamped in gilt.
The dustjacket is unclipped and in fine condition, with some minimal rubbing to the top of the spine and edges.
Spine also has been lightly tanned.
A handsome, well-preserved fourth impression of HarperCollins’ richly illustrated 1995 edition of The Hobbit.
