The books and jackets are exceptionally well preserved, with bright cloth, clean interiors and only minimal shelf wear or rubbing visible in the 45 photographs.
Volume 1 is accompanied by a Christopher Tolkien signature slip.
Volumes 6 and 7 retain publisher review material.
The first four volumes were published by George Allen & Unwin,
the next four by Unwin Hyman,
and the final four by HarperCollins.
None of the dust jackets is price-clipped.
There are no ownership names or annotations in the books.
No foxing or offsetting is apparent in the photographs.
The first four Allen & Unwin volumes retain their publisher’s topstain.
The uniform set presents exceptionally well, with the jackets retaining strong colour and finish.
