Tolkien Calendars
The J.R.R.Tolkien calendars have been published since 1973, and appear every year since then (except 1983). In the beginning they were mostly presenting Tolkiens own drawings and pictures. Later on also other artists appeared like the Hildebrand brothers, H.E.Ridett, Roger Garland, Ted Nasmith, John Howe, Michael Kaluta, Michael Hague, Inger Edelfelt,e.a. There also have been published numerous Tolkien calendars depicting illustrations from the movies, first from the Bakshi movie in 1980 and now-days even more different calendars appear with the Peter Jackson movies.
The calendars appear in chronological order seperated into 4 pages:
- calendars from 1973 till 1979
- calendars from 1980 till 1989
- calendars from 1990 till 2000
J.R.R.Tolkien comics
When thinking about Tolkien Comics everyone who collects
Tolkien books immediatly thinks about the very common and
very known hobbit sequal (first edited as three parts, now
mostly available as one book).
But long before the first appearance of the hobbit comics
there were the Lord of the rings comics. These "The Lord
of the Rings" comic albums were drawn based on the Ralph
Bakshi movie, as is mentioned inside the Dutch
version of the comic albums. It is though vey difficult
to find any information on the when and how these comics
got published.
And even longer before that we saw a fifteen-part adaptation of The Hobbit as a "visual serial" in Princess and Girl magazine in the United Kingdom with art by Ferguson Dewar.
