This listing features the second edition, fifth impression (1951) of The Hobbit, published by George Allen & Unwin. A significant collectible printing, this edition retains Tolkien’s original artwork on the dust jacket and includes the important textual revisions he made for the second edition.

Condition:
- The original dust jacket is present, unrestored, and unclipped (with "8s. 6d. net" price visible). General soiling and wear are visible, particularly to the rear panel and spine folds. Spine panel slightly darkened.
- Jacket has minor chipping and creasing to spine ends and corners; folds and edges show wear with small closed tears.
- Book is in very good condition overall, with original green cloth boards and black decorative dragon and mountain motif. Bright boards with minor shelf wear. Very light bumping to corners.
- Slight lean to spine. Top edge toned. Internally clean and tight. No markings, inscriptions, or bookplates.
- Marbled slipcase is clean and sturdy, adding considerable protection and appeal.

This is a desirable and collectible early post-war edition of The Hobbit, a cornerstone of modern fantasy literature. A solid copy for collectors seeking an unrestored jacket and a complete vintage presentation.
