De Hobbit — Eighth Dutch Printing (1971), Marked Ex-Libris Copy

This eighth printing of Max Schuchart's Dutch translation of J.R.R. Tolkien's De Hobbit was issued as Prisma book 529. Its copyright page states Achtste druk; the eighth Dutch printing is dated 1971 in the Tolkien Library printing sequence. The pink illustrated wrappers were designed by Cees Kelfkens. Tolkien's two maps appear in Dutch inside the book.

The photographed Achtste druk statement identifies this as the eighth printing in the Prisma series. Kelfkens’s pink illustrated cover and the Dutch maps link it visually to the other contemporary printings, but the ownership marks make this a clearly individual copy. Its marked preliminary and title pages are included among the photographs so that the extent of the previous owner’s interventions is visible.

The wrappers show edge rubbing and handling wear, with wear along the blue spine. A former owner's handwritten name and an ex-libris stamp with its name blacked out are visible on the preliminary pages; another mark has been blacked out on the title opening. The paper shows age-related toning and some spotting. These marks are shown directly in the photographs.

The blacked-out ownership details remain in the book; the marks have not been removed or hidden in the listing photographs.
