De Hobbit — Ninth Dutch Printing (1972), Cees Kelfkens Cover

This ninth Dutch printing of De Hobbit was issued by Het Spectrum in 1972 as Prisma book 529. Its pink pictorial wrappers carry Cees Kelfkens's memorable design. Max Schuchart's Dutch translation is accompanied by Tolkien's maps, printed with Dutch place names. The copyright page explicitly states Negende druk and bears the 1972 translation copyright.

This is a later printing in the same Prisma 529 series, with the pink Kelfkens design and blue publisher’s spine. The Negende druk statement on the photographed copyright page identifies the printing independently of the cover, which was also used on other impressions. The two Dutch-language map openings and the book’s wrappers are shown in the gallery.

The wrappers remain colourful but show rubbing and creasing at the corners and edges. The blue spine has handling wear, and the rear wrapper shows surface marks and a small crease near the lower corner. The photographed interior has light age-related toning. The maps are present.

The small crease at the lower corner of the back wrapper and the slight darkening of the paper distinguish this copy from a pristine example.
