A Dutch marvel: "In de Ban van de Hobbit"

This is the first time "The Tolkien Library" reviews a non-English book, yet the importance of this new Dutch book made us decide to do so. The author, Johan Vanhecke, has written many interesting articles on several Tolkien related subjects, organised a fantastic Tolkien exhibition in Antwerp (Belgium) in 1992 and has been a member of the Tolkien Society since 1979. The review is written in English (click here), but can also be read in Dutch (click here). "In de Ban van de Hobbit" is a book for all who visited Middle Earth, by reading the books or seeing the movies, and want to find out know more about the creation of this world.

The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion

Finally "The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion" arrived at The Tolkienlibrary and i had a chance to review it myself. It seems a lot of mistakes have been spread around the internet about this book. First of all this book has about 976 pages, which is much more then the 416 pages as is written on Amazon and the Houghton Mifflin site. Also the content of the book has been wrongly described at several places, there for I thought it helpfull to write a review about this book, which can be found here.
This book is the definitive annotated companion to The lord of the Rings and I'm convinced many people will now, because of "The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion" start to re-read "The Lord of the Rings". And so many people will come to a greater enjoyment and appreciation of tolkien's magnificent achievement.

Articles are being written on some new books which are very interesting, fe. 'Smith of Wootton Major' extended edition edited by Verlyn Flieger and 'The Lord of the Rings Sketchbook' by Alan Lee. Also an article on the UK exhibitions by ted Nasmith will be published very soon. So please keep on visiting tolkienlibrary.com!
