This rare and highly collectible Readers Union edition set of The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien is a must-have for any serious collector. The set includes The Fellowship of the Ring (1960), The Two Towers (1960), and The Return of the King (1960). Each book retains its original dust jacket, which features Tolkien’s iconic design, and includes the highly sought-after fold-out maps of Middle-earth.

The Fellowship of the Ring (1960) – Readers Union Edition:
There is chipping and paper loss at the spine ends, edge tears and toning, with several old tape repairs on the reverse of the jacket. The red title text remains clear. The jacket remains unclipped, with the original price (12s net) visible. The brown cloth covers are well-preserved with minimal shelf wear, and the binding remains tight. Internally, the pages show light toning consistent with age but are free from any markings or significant foxing. The fold-out map at the back is intact and in excellent condition.

The Two Towers (1960) – Readers Union Edition:
There is paper loss at the jacket spine ends, edge wear and toning, with old tape repairs on the reverse near the head of the spine. The red title text remains visible. The brown cloth cover shows minimal wear, and the binding is strong. The interior is clean, with light toning to the pages. The fold-out map at the back of the book is intact and in great shape.

The Return of the King (1960) – Readers Union Edition:
The Return of the King dust jacket has a toned spine and edge wear. A short tear is visible at the top edge of the front jacket panel near the spine. The brown cloth cover has gilt lettering on the spine. The pages show light toning, consistent with the set’s age, and are free from any major defects. The fold-out map at the back of this volume is also intact and well-preserved.

Each volume retains its fold-out map, with the original folds visible, which are an essential element of this collectible set. These maps illustrate the detailed geography of Middle-earth, a hallmark of Tolkien’s world-building.
