This sixth impression edition from 1971 is a unique find, featuring a personal inscription in Quenya, one of the Elvish languages invented by Tolkien himself. The inscription reads 'tolkīn' in Quenya, making it the only known example of Tolkien writing his name in Elvish in a book.

Original green cloth without a dust jacket, with rubbing, bumped corners, light staining to the boards and a pale mark on the spine. The page edges are toned and marked, with scattered spots to the preliminary leaves and endpapers. One illustration is loose. The signature and Elvish inscription are on the half-title, which also bears the ownership name B. Haunch. Housed in a green cloth solander box.
