The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by Houghton Mifflin in 1967, Second Editions, 1st impressions with 1967 date on Title Page on all three volumes.
An exceptional and lovely set of this classic of fantasy literature.
The set is in original black cloth with original Near Fine price clipped dustjackets and a new custom black faux leather slipcase with tolkien's "Ring & Eye" device and Tengwar Title and Author to the front, and the JRRT Monogram to the rear, all stamped in red foil.
The black cloth boards feature Tolkiens original "Ring & Eye" device stamped in various colors, matching topstain on each book.
The set is all Very Good Plus, some minor dustiness to the cloth, mostly to the edges and tips of the spine, the textblock is clean, tight and bright. The topstain is slightly faded and dusty. No writing, names, or dates. Only the lightest of wear at the edges of the dustjackets, with some very light fading of the spines.
Original maps attached at the rear, in Fine condition, no tears or extra folds noted. Lower front corner of front pastedown on The Return of the King is folded under, probably from the original binding of the book.
