Near fine blue cloth lettered in gold, showing very light shelfwear including a small mark to bottom text edge. In Near Fine protected dustwrapper with some edgewear, a crease to lower front corner and a couple of very short tears near spine.
A lovely copy of the first US edition, first impression of the third part of tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" books. The dustwrapper is bright and not price-clipped (see photograph). This impression has a 4 printed at the bottom of page 49 and the infamous "slipped-text" (see photograph - in the second last paragraph you can really notice the s in "Legolas" is below the rest of the line). The map is still pasted onto the rear inside cover and is in perfect condition.
As you can see from the photos, this copy shows no signs of the foxing that plagues so many other copies that come to market.
